African and Afro-descendant literature in Spain

I am very pleased to be part of this continuing education program at the Université de Lausanne with an input presentation on Equatorial Guinea and the migration flows from Equatorial Guinea to Spain. The topic of the course is «African and Afro-descendant literature in Spain. Resources for interculturalism in the Spanish as a foreign language classroom». Lucía Asué Mbomío Rubio will be there to talk about African and Afro-descendant literary and audiovisual production in Spain at the turn of the century (20th to 21st), as well as about her books Las que se atrevieron and Hija del camino.

As the organizers write: «The recent literary and audiovisual production of African and Afro-descendant authors in Spain is not only an excellent support when addressing the issue of interculturality in the Spanish as a foreign language classroom, but also a tool to understand the complexity of contemporary multicultural societies». Nevertheless, so far, the topic has little or no presence in Spanish lessons. Let’s hope that further training courses such as this one will increase awareness of the subject and that African and Afro-descendant authors will gradually find their way into the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.

Many thanks to Sara Bernechea Navarro for the organization and the invitation!
